I’m finishing up my second year in the Culinary Management Program at Niagara College after graduating from Bishop Tonnos Catholic Secondary School in Ancaster. I needed a co-op placement, so I applied for a position at club and then stayed on full time over the summer and then part time over the next school year. I work as a kitchen assistant overseeing the salads, pizza oven and desserts. I have learned a lot about cooking. Chef Pedro and Executive Sous Chef Kenrick Ngo are terrific to work for and have taught me lots. It’s an awesome place to work. The staff are friendly and good to work with. It is close to home and one day I may learn to play golf.

I met a lot of people and learned a lot of names in my first summer at Hamilton G&CC. I needed a co-op placement for my Professional Golf Management Program at Humber College and a friend suggested HGCC. I completed my co-op at HGCC in 2022 in Golfer Services and stayed on for the summer. My duties included attending to the Practice Tee, looking after members’ golf bags and clubs, keeping the golf carts clean and ready to go and anything and everything pertaining to golf. It has been a great place to work and learn. I’m excited to be coming back in 2023 as a Golfer Services Supervisor. There is also an opportunity for staff to play the course and that’s a great perk. I’m hoping to become a golf instructor.

I had been filling in part time at reception while working in F&B when the position opened up in 2021 and I jumped at the opportunity. I welcome members and guests as they enter the clubhouse and answer any questions they may have. My main duties include answering phones, responding to emails, booking dining and event reservations. I really enjoy chatting with the members and making sure everyone is looked after so they enjoy their time at the club. After a Google search, I started at HGCC in 2019 with two internships in Hospitality Management and Event Planning prior to graduating from Humber College. Definitely a terrific learning environment and an excellent staff and management team.

Meet and greet is my thing at HGCC. 2023 will be my third season as a starter and I’m enjoying it. I’m a retired high school physical education teacher and I really enjoy working twice a week at HGCC. My role is to welcome members and guests to the first tee and explain our local golf rules to members and guests to ensure everyone is on the same page and enjoys their day on the course. The staff is fantastic here and there’s lots of flexibility in the scheduling. It’s also a very positive and friendly working environment with terrific people, which makes it enjoyable to come to work. I’m always smiling while I’m at the club and play the course once-in-a-while, which is a very nice staff perk.

I started bartending at HGCC in June 2019 for the RBC Canadian Open. It was great to be part of a world-class event and I’m looking forward to its return in 2024. Over the years, I have worked full and part-time as a bartender for banquets, weddings, special celebrations and outdoor events. The staff and members keep me coming back. There is a real sense of community that is alive at the club and I have established relationships with members and staff that make it an enjoyable place to be. A member assisted me in moving to a full-time position as a mortgage agent, so that’s been very helpful. I didn’t play golf when I started here, but now I try to play every couple of weeks because the course is amazing.
